New King James Version Audio Bible, Voice Only
I was very pleased with this product.I prefer listening to a "voice only" version. The background music can be distracting.I love this mans voice. He speaks clearly and is very easy to listen to.I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for the Bible on disc.Very convenient to have in a vehicle, at the gym while on the treadmill or at home to listen to.It also comes in a very nice carrying case.

NBA Live 2006 Review

NBA Live 2006
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In my opinion overall NBA live 2006 is the best game of the series to date, when you take in to account the extra features and small additions to the gameplay. However, whilst always improving the look, and features of the game, certain aspects which could be drastically improved are being neglected. The individuality of players has almost completely left the game. In NBA Live 06, the only thing which sets apart two 'playmakers' or two 'scorers' are the way they look and what singlet they are wearing. Ballhandlers all make the same moves, dunkers all make the same dunks. In saying that let me stress the dunks and moves are better then ever and look fantastic.

Graphics: As long as you have a decent video card etc the graphics of the game are as good if not better then ever. The stadiums look absolutely fantastic and the crowd, bench and coach detail is remarkable. The creators have still not quite got the players looking as smooth as possible but still a vast improvement on previous years. The close up video shots in timeouts etc look just like the real players.

Sound: At first the sound appeared to be brilliant as far as commentary goes, with different combinations on different games even. However as is always the case there are certain phrases and such which appear to be coming out constantly and every now and then a random comment which seems to have nothing to do with what is happening in the game. Great commentary in a game will be a tough aspect to master, and they haven't done it yet.

Gameplay: The general gameplay is excellent. The freestyle aspects to ball handling is a huge plus in the games favour and gives you a lot more control over what you player does with the ball. The penetrating and passing/rotating around the three point line to find an open man is fantastic, probably the most enjoyable gameplay yet. However one of the biggest downfalls of the game in my opinion is some of the unrealistic aspects of the game including the fact that the offense almost averages an offensive rebound per offensive play. Defenders (whom you are not contolling) out of position quite a bit.

Features: The features in the series are getting better and better. With the All - star weekend, 3 point competition, fantastic dynasty mode.

Lasting appeal: For players who enjoy the game the everlasting appeal of the game is fantastic. THe dynastic mode letsyou take control of a team, hire staff, trade players etc as well as play the games. Great stats and players of the month are great extras in the mode. Of course there is always the multiplayer option and online play.

Overall: Not the perfect NBA Live game but in my opinion the best yet and you can easily look past the few downfalls and get long-lasting enjoyement out of the newest addition to the NBA Live series.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Review

Unreal Tournament 2004
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've never been big on first-person shooter (FPS) games, although I've played a few, like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, that I've found entertaining. So, getting this game was taking a chance, since I'm partial to real-time strategy games and roleplaying games.Overall, I must say that I've really had a good time with UT 2004. It hasn't made me more of a fan of the FPS genre, but I am definitely looking forward to UT 2007.

Gameplay: The controls are the typical mouse, WASD keys, and hotkeys associated with FPS games, so anyone familiar with the FPS genre ought to be able to jump right in. You have a number of options for your in-game character, including race, gender, name, etc. You can also choose your AI teammates and the number on each team.Additionally, there are ten game modes, including deathmatch, capture the flag (CTF), domination (requires you to hold two points), assault (objective based), bombing run (a deadly version of soccer), and onslaught (securing nodes and destroying the enemy base). There's fun to be had with each mode, but I suspect that most people will find the greatest replayabiity in the onsault, assault, CTF, and team deathmatch modes. The maps are large enough for some strategic thinking (especially on assault and onslaught), and the game comes with about 100 maps--with many more that can be downloaded from the internet.

AI opponents ("bots") are very good in this game. They have strong attack scripts, good pathfinding, will follow orders, and generally work well as teams. I detected some of the typical AI cheating found in FPS games (i.e., extra health, amazing accuracy, accelerated movement) toward the end of the tournament and in some of the tougher matches, but generally the AI here is just plain challenging and well programmed. Although many will buy this game for the multiplayer side, the single-player content (which is all that I play) is quite strong. The game does not have a compelling story to tell, but the tournament mode lasted me 25-30 hours on "experienced" difficulty level. I don't feel a need to replay the tournament anytime soon, but there are a lot of individual maps and modes that are greatly replayable.

A few things that add a lot to the game are the variety of weapons available and the vehicles. Overall, none of the weapons are very overpowered, though some are better and more versatile than others. Some weapons are best suited for one situation, while others can be useful in some fashion under a number of conditions. A second element that adds variety to the game is the vehicles. I can't overemphasize how fun these can be. Not only do they break up the monotony of having to sprint on foot across the map, but they also add a new strategic and tactical layer to a game. Vehicles can be game winners, but they are not invincible. Some can carry multiple passengers, who can man various weapons or simply go along for the ride. However, to maintain balance, characters on foot have a few very strong anti-vehicle weapons, and many objectives cannot be completed by vehicles. Still, there's nothing like decapitating a fleeing opponent with the blades of a Scorpion buggy or hearing the thundering cannon of a Goliath tank.

The gameplay is frantic, exciting, and straightforward enough to appeal to a range of gamers. You never feel lost on the maps, since there is a good in-game mini-map and the objectives are always clear. Also, you never get the sense that you are babysitting your computer allies, since they act as intelligently--more so on many occasions--as the average human player. The game's flaws are mostly minor, but worth mentioning. First, there are a few rather frustrating missions in the tournament that the average player will have to repeat several times (at least on experienced difficulty and higher). And there is no way to adjust the difficulty level of the tournament once it starts. Also, the game-save system is automatic; the game saves after every match, win or loss. Thus, you can find yourself broke if you lose enough matches, and you'll have to play a series of qualifying matches to earn enough money to continue the tournament. It's a system that gets old quick and really adds a layer of repetition to the game that serves little purpose. Finally, some people will be put off by the amount of acrobatics that the game includes. On some of the more advanced levels and difficulty settings, AI opponents are hopping, flipping, and cartwheeling in ways that make them nearly impossible to hit, though they will seem to hit you just fine. I think that the game plays just a tad bit too fast and requires too much jumping around. But you'll get used to it.

Graphics: Great-looking game. The maps are very impressive in detail and size. Be sure to take a lot of screenshots! The models are all rendered well, from the characters to the vehicles. Weapon fire and particle effects look good, as does the natural environment, especially skies. Have no doubt about it, this is a very violent game. Dying animations are graphic, and people tend to end up in pieces or as skeletal remains. Overall, the art direction is rock solid.

Sound: Although decent, the audio is not as good as the visuals. Weapons such as miniguns and tank cannon sound like they should, along with footsteps, flowing water, and other ambiant effects. In-game AI characters tend to use the same list of taunts such as "Ownage!" or "You suck!" or "You be dead!"--along with a few choice obscenities--but none of the characters really stand out with individual personalities. The music is the typical techno fare found in many video games, nothing special.

Documentation/Stability: The manual that comes with the game is informative and makes up for a rather bland in-game tutorial. The game was pretty stable on my computer, though I experienced one freeze and one crash during the tournament. Overall, the game seemed well polished and optimized.

Replayability: Given the number of maps that come with the game, the developer's Bonus Pack that can be downloaded for free from the internet, the large number of player-made maps available, and the editor tools that you can use to make your own maps, this game has had a long shelf life. If you get tired of playing against the AI, you can go online and play against a human opponent. For me, about half of the 10 gameplay modes are not appealing after a few rounds, but the other 5 (especially assault, onslaught, and CTF) are always good fun.

If you are a fan of FPS games, UT 2004 seems to be a must-buy (I'd be surprised if you don't already have it!). From what I have read, it is the best of the Unreal series and still has an active online community. For those of us who only have a passing interest in FPS games, this is a good one to blow some time with.

Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust Review

Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Interesting how an advantage of a known name (Larry) was taken to produce a game that doesn't match any of the previous game series. This game is a major dissappointment, not because it is bad overally, but because it is bad AND it is a LARRY.

To sum up:

* In order to save, you will really hate this game. Perhaps they didn't believe that anyone is going to replay this game - so they didn't include an easy save feature.

* No mouse. Yes, keyboard only. And the controls are somewhat broken.

* Ugly women. Really ugly. At least, in LSL 8 (which was also not good) the women were kind of attractive. Here they are not even interesting.

* Camera constantly changes. Remember Alone in the Dark 1? Like that, only here you can't also find where you are, especially in arcade missions. And Alone in the Dark 1 was a masterpiece all right, absolutely no match with this 15+ year later one.

* No "Larry" atmosphere. Older Larry games were fun, full of nice quotes, and sexism all over the place. What do we have here ? A game with good graphics and voices all right, but nothing resembles an old Larry game.

* No nudity or sex. Is this a 17+ game ? Perhaps an 7+. It has some swearing all right, only to try to convince you that it is a Larry. Not fun at all.

Is there any chance that you will like this game? Perhaps, If you do not know until now what Larry means.

In short, If you are expecting a Larry, I am sorry. If you want to try it, go buy it, but you have been warned. As others say, this game is simply an insult to what "Leasure Suit Larry" once was. Mr Al Lowe, please come back.

Learn German Now! 9.0 Review

Learn German Now 9.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used several LanguageNow courses and I like them. However, reviews for these courses seem to be all over the place, so I thought it might be helpful to describe what they are and what they aren't.
The CD always has at least four parts. 1)The first section teaches common words in sample sentences and dialogues. 2)The second section teaches survival phrases. 3) Other sections are monologues on travel and culture, or are stories full of dialogues. These sections are more difficult than the first two.
Everything you hear is written on the screen. You can stop and start anyplace and at any time. You can listen to one sentence a hundred times if you want. You can listen to a slowed down version. You can click on a word at any time for a translation into English. When ready, you can go to the games section and practice what you have learned.I really like the games section, as it really reinforces what I am learning without wearing me out.
Beware! The courses don't teach grammar, but they still work well if you buy a simple grammar reference. The courses do teach vocabulary, and how to speak and listen.I know several languages and find that I learn more quickly if I focus on communication and just check on a grammar point now and then. This company also has"add-on-titles" which are good if you want to become near fluent even without much real life practice. If you are a complete beginner, you might find these courses frustrating. If you have some background or know a related language, these courses really work well.

I'm traveling to Ethiopia soon and I wanted to become familiar with the language. Amharic is a very difficult language but this CD offers great immersion into it. It doesn't offer any grammatical education or full sentences. It is vocabulary based and the words and short phrases are divided into sections such as Food, Basics, etc. Each word is pronounced by a mail and female voice and is shown in English ( or other language you choose) as well as in Amharic script. There are also options to be quizzed and play games with the different vocabulary. You can also record yourself saying the words and compare it to the program's pronunciation. This is a great CD for learning how this language sounds and practicing saying it. I highly recommend it!

Apple Garageband Jam Pack: Symphony Orchestra Review

Apple Garageband Jam Pack: Symphony Orchestra
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The day before I ordered this Jam Pack, I had received an M-Audio 88es USB velocity sensitive keyboard from amazon (reviewed separately) Keystation 88es 88 Key USB MIDI Controller and sustain pedal M-Audio SP-2 US65010 Sustain Pedal Piano Style Sustain Pedal for Keyboards

The standard Garage Band 'Grand Piano' sounded just "OK", and there was no harpsichord. Those were my prime reasons for ordering this Jam Pack... and to have fun with the other sounds, of course.

The Steinway Piano in this pack is substantially better than the standard Garage Band piano.Neither is perfect - but this Steinway is great for the price. The difference is more than the soft hammer sound of a Steinway vs a hardened hammersound of the standard piano. The velocity response and the behavior of sustained notes is much more realistic. The default settings have a fair amount of reverb - to simulate a concert hall.Adjusting that and other sliders can give a sound more appropriate to other settings.

It still does not sound like a real grand piano of course - there are no induced harmonics when the sustain pedal is depressed, for example. But, not bad at all.

The harpsichord is pretty disappointing in comparison. The lower register is amplified way louder than the upper - roughly everything below middle C as I recall.I haven't tried adjusting bass reduction effects etc to make it sound more 'correct'.Also, considerable reverb in the default 'Orchestra Harpsichord' to reflect a large hall.Lower that to get a chamber sound.

The variety of attack modes that are adjustable by keyboard control are pretty nice for instruments such as the strings and brass.

The huge quantity of loops (over 3 GB) will be of less use to me, but can be handy for making some quick transitions or tracks for videos - since Garage Band is basically THE sound editor for iMovie and Final Cut Express now.I had expected that the loops would be performances on real instruments, but many (most?) sound like sampled digital instruments to my ear.

If you want a better piano, a harpsichord and/or symphonic instruments, this pack is a great deal.

PS Not in the product description, so I just noticed:The Jam Pack comes with a selection of 'demo songs' reached from the File > Open Demos menu. (If shared, these reside on disk at Users > Shared > Symphony Orchestra Demo Songs.)Five symphonic themes as an orchestra of MIDI instruments and 8 loop (wave) compositions.Fun to mess with and good for learning purposes.

With a symphony orchestra in tow, you just may have to spring for bigger quarters. But if you're planning to conduct your own orchestra, you'll want better acoustics anyway. Using Symphony Orchestra and GarageBand (or Logic Express 7, Logic Pro 7, or Soundtrack Pro), there are virtually no limits to the types of sophisticated music you can create. Taking advantage of the prerecorded Apple Loops (more than 2,000 in Symphony Orchestra), you can compose everything from classical music to movie soundtracks. Or you may want to lend some symphonic power to your pop, rock, or hip-hop arrangements.

OvoLab Phlink Phone Information System (Mac) Review

OvoLab Phlink Phone Information System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using a Mac for my voicemail since my Performa 6320, and Phlink is the best Mac voicemail product ever. I have it running on an old 600MHz iBook and it works great. The basic functionality (like sending yourself emails of the recordings) is simple to set up, and for advanced users the AppleScript ability is awesome. By using a simple folder hierarchy, you can create unlimited mailboxes and voice trees for companies. The documentation is good and easy to understand.

Some third-party products -- like Indigo home automation software -- are already set up to tie in to Phlink and come with ready-made AppleScripts that you just need to drop in the appropriate folder.

The one time I had a problem (a fried telephone adapter, which which was my own fault) Ovolab's tech support was prompt, helpful, and friendly.

What I love about this product:

* Getting emails at work of voicemails left at home
* Having custom outgoing messages based upon caller ID info (great for annoying telemarketers!)
* Getting pop-up alerts on other Macs on my network telling me who's calling
* Integrating with Indigo so I can call home and turn lights on and off

Sound Forge 9 Review

Sound Forge 9
Average Reviews:

appearantly the last reviewer doesn't understand the simplicity of what a fully featured "audio editing" program is.

as of soundforge 1.0, you could mix vocals into music, ...all you do is copy it onto the clipboard, ...and highlight the area in the audio you want to mix the vocals into, ...and move it also to the cliboard, ...then choose the "mix" setting on the clipboard, ...make any required adjustments inside the dialogue box, ....and click paste.

the cursor should still be left precisley at the point you extracted the audio segment to be mixed.

this is "not" a multi-track recorder.

this is an "audio editing program", ...mainly oriented towards sound designers, ...audio engineer "mastering" specialists....and people who use hardware and software samplers who want to get closer, spiritually with the essence of their samplers.

you 'can' sync to video, ...but vegas might be a better option.

soundforge 9 also excepts any VST plugins, ...an insane value if you are already into music production/recording/engineering.

not to mention "noise reduction", ...how else would you get all that vynil onto your hard drive, and capture its origional sound quality?

this editing program is by far more powerful than "ANY" editing program featured in any software multitrack recording program or DAW, ...as well as "ANY" hardware sampler.

although it is meant to "edit" with the entent of dispersing its results onto other working software/hardware applications.

don't get pissed cause you bought a high quality turntable needle, but can't be a full fledged dj without two turntables and a mixer.

the only competition is Steinberg Wavelab.
i haven't used it, ...but it costs twice as much, ...and steinberg has caught up to its features with surround sound mixing, ...video audio syncing, ...vst implementation, ...noise reduction 2.0, ....as well as CD Architect, ...what a great program to create RED BOOK STANDARD commercially professional cds?

soundforge + waves plugins?....full fledged mastering studio for the price of a few hundred dollars?...incredible!

My son has the videos, the trucks (including the hard to find Lofty), the tool belt and hat and he knows all of the words to the theme song. He also owns this CD and, its disappointing at best. The games are trite, even for my 2 1/2 year old. While the game looks nice with the 3-D shorts at the beginning and end of each game, its difficult to see any long term game playing here. Uninstalled this peice of garbage today. This game definately does not live up to the hype. Is it better than Thunder 04? maybe. Is it a realistic Nascar sim? NO. If your lookingfor a Sim Nascar Game buy anything made by Papyrus Racing Games. From Nascar 4 to Nascar 2003. They are not perfect but they are way closer than this. I really had my hopes up that EA would get it right this time but once again they fell way short. EA has exclusive rights to Nascar Sims now and since there is no competition they don't have to worry about making anything better. I've been racing online for 4 years and playing racing games for several years before that. If your looking for a new racing game even if it's not a Nascar game for the PC look elsewhere GTR and R Factor come to mind as games that show way more promise than this one.

I personally don't recommend this product for WME users.
For my 600MHz computer running Windows ME, IBM included a notice in the box claimed performance issues while running with WME, as well as that important "direct dictation" feature for works other than word processing (ie using Excel/Outlook/IE4) will cause crashes. This made it not worth the price, and the risk of losing data.
However, it works exceptionally well for 600MHz running Windows 98 including 2nd Edition, for that I will give 4 stars.

I bought Plus for XP, recently, then I installed it.I was expecting a Microsoft Plus that added great features like Plus 98.But, it was nothing like that.First, there was 4 measily little themes. And the fish screen saver, which if you want more fish, you'd have to pay for it.Well what was the $...for anyway? And the games! For heavens sake. Why put a stinkin lite edition into a $...collection of programs. And there are other programs that I might not fool with anyway.
For those who are looking to buy this, please note that you at least need a 500 megahertz computer, 64MB of RAM, and a 3D video card with 16, I repeat 16MB of video memory.
If Microsoft had added such things as an Antivirus to the program, more desktop themes, FULL EDITION Games, and less steep requirements, then I'd recommend this to everyone.
So if your at the store, leave this on the shelf!!!
PS - This program is a prime example of Bloatware.

I bought this system three weeks ago for transcription purposes. It is easy to install and comes with a headset that is pretty sturdy. You can teach it how to recognize the way you speak with the ability to constantly add new words. I am sure you could pay more for this type of product but why would you want to? This one will do the job. ...

Naturally Mobile Recorder Option Kit Review

Naturally Mobile Recorder Option Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Dragon NaturallyMobile system for dictating away from my office, and it has fulfilled all of my expectations. The unit is ergonomic, useful, compact, and fully capable. Further, with additional memory cards, its storage capacity is virtually unlimited. The only downside, in my opinion, is the intuitiveness of the download feature. Upon returning to the office, a one button download feature would be helpful. However, all things considered, this is an excellent product worthy of investigation by those professional who live and die by the dictaphone.

ViaVoice 8.0 Standard Edition Review

ViaVoice 8.0 Standard Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this to help me dictate some reports. I was up and running with ViaVoice 8.0 Standard in less than an hour. Training the computer to recognize your voice patterns can be done in as little as 15 minutes, but after continued use of the software, I recommend that you read all six training exercises that are presented during the setup phase of ViaVoice. I found that accuracy improves when the program has more of a voice model from which to extrapolate words.
The headset included with the program is very well made and extremely sensitive to speech. Connecting it was no problem for me, and I was given a choice of using my computer's external speakers or the headset speaker to hear my dictation. This is a useful feature as you can hear what you read back in your own voice (or you can use "Woodrow," the program's own synthesized voice).
Overall, I would say this product is a good value, and I would recommend it to those who are looking for a good beginning to voice recognition programs.

With IBM's ViaVoice for Windows, Standard Edition, you can dictate, format, and edit text directly in popular word processing applications like Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000. Personalized Attention Words help dictation and voice commands work more smoothly. The Standard Edition includes enhancements and improvements to accuracy that are found in the ViaVoice Advanced and Pro Editions, which will help increase your productivity. Improved accuracy and quicker corrections can mean that you'll spend more time creating and less time correcting.
The Text-to-Speech feature reads back what you've dictated for quick and easy editing, spelling correction, and grammar. A noise-canceling headset microphone with an integrated earpiece is included. Dictate into the microphone, and listen as the Text-to-Speech process reads your dictated and corrected text back to you. This lightweight, noise-canceling headset microphone with earphone speaker is designed especially for computer voice recognition, and can provide excellent accuracy. The earphone can provide clear, private feedback when you use the ViaVoice Text-to-Speech feature. Direct Dictation in Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000 means that now you can speak, format, and edit directly into this popular application. Natural Commands in Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000 can make working with Word easier, as you use everyday language instead of computer speak to command functions. You can bypass Microsoft Word and use a simpler way to dictate, format, and edit text--directly into the ViaVoice speech-enabled word processor.

TalkItTypeIt-Standard Edition Review

TalkItTypeIt-Standard Edition
Average Reviews:

This product does not seem to work well in the teaching mode. It still, after two weeks of training makes many mistakes and does not seem to understand a majority of spoken items. You have to talk extremely slowly. Would be faster to type it out.
I have been so frustrated that I start typing instead and it picks up clicks as words somehow. Not recommended for the price paid.
