(More customer reviews)I'm not typing this. I'm standing behind my desk chair wearing a Bluetooth microphone in my ear, speaking in my normal voice at a normal pace. I first tried using voice recognition software back in 2004, and I found a clunky, slow, and pretty much a waste of time. I spent so much of my time going back over what I had dictated to correct mistakes that I ended up not using it at all because it was faster just to type whatever I needed to express. The new version of Mac speech dictate, on the other hand, is a fantastic tool. I find it about 95% accurate, and although I've just started using it-and am therefore still working out how to get the best out of it-I feel sure it's a piece of software I will use more and more as time goes on.
I would not hesitate to recommend this software to anybody who spend long hours at a computer, or who has difficulty in using a keyboard, or-like me-finds that hour after hour of typing simply causes postural difficulties and pain. Looking around on the Internet I see that some people have had some difficulties with the software, although I think perhaps these were older versions, or that the people were using older computers. I am using the most up-to-date version dictate, along with an Intel-based iMac.
If you're looking for a good voice to text, hands-free piece of software, look no further.
(By the way, in the writing of this review I had to correct about 11 mistakes that the software made. I did it by directing Dictate to make the changes-rather than by typing them in-and in each case I found that by slowing my speech down a little, and speaking more clearly, the software rectified the problem easily).
