The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay Review

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Chronicles of Riddick- Escape From Butcher Bay(2004). Released on the XBox and PC(Since I couldn't find the XBOX one I'm doing the PC review).

In the past few years, the movie 'Pitch Black' has been hailed as a masterpiece from Sci-Fi fans everywhere, so it's no surprised that a sequel was made, starring, once again, Vin Diesel, entitled 'The Chronicles of Riddick'. In sort of a movie marketing scheme, Starbreeze decided to release a video game that would be a prequel to 'Pitch Black', entitled 'Escape From Butcher Bay', which chronicles(pun alert) Riddick's tenure at the Butcher Bay prison facility, and how he eventually escaped. Deciding to release it as a First Person Shooter, like the game 'Halo', I was enclined to pick 'Escape From Butcher Bay' after reading good reviews, and also that my favorite genre is First Person Shooters. So, did 'Escape From Butcher Bay' live up to my expectations, or fail miserably? Read on to find out....

Game Ratings-

Graphics- Could they be any better? The dark, gritty atmosphere dominated by bump-mapping and beautiful character designs make this one big piece of eye candy. 5/5

Play Control- The control is top-notch, as moving Riddick around, not to mention shooting, is a breeze, and I never found myself frustrated over the controls, except for the last segment where you piloted a Heavy Guard, but I didn't care because it was so fun! 4.5/5

Challenge- 'Escape From Butcher Bay' is definitely a challenge, at some points making you face multiple guards with only your fists, but at other times you can find yourself breezing through the game. There are very intricate puzzles, and that's what makes 'Escape From Butcher Bay' tough. 5/5

Storyline- 'Escape From Butcher Bay' is fun go through, because of the cut-scenes! I love the plot, and its gritty realism coupled with harsh realities make it plausible, even if it's not. Superb! 5/5

Replay Value- Although playing through the game over and over would get old, you are enticed to go back through the game and collect "Pack of Smokes" cartridges which enable you to unlock special features. Not the greatest Replay Value, but not bad...3/5

Sound/Music- 'Escape From Butcher Bay' has great sound affects, and when the bullets are flying, you KNOW! Plus not to mention great voice-acting, and they got Diesel to even voice himself. Unless you care, there really isn't any music, but it in no way takes away from the game! 5/5

Fun- 'Escape From Butcher Bay"s undoubtable strong point is in its fun factor, and I found myself blasting through robots, guards, zombies, and mutated creatures to finish this game in 2 Days! You have an insanely fun time blasting your way through 'Escape From Butcher Bay'!

Overall, 'The Chronicles of Riddick- Escape From Butcher Bay' sports excellence in every field, and this First Person Shooter is a masterpiece, and, while not being as good as 'Halo', still gives the player an unmistakeable feeling of having fun as you blast your way through the game. This game gets very tough at times, and I suggest you pick up an Official Strategy Guide to solve the puzzles and get all the Packs of Smokes.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO FANS OF VIDEO GAMES EVERYWHERE! PARENTS BE WARNED, 'ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY' HAS GRITTY AND GORY VIOLENCE AND STRONG LANGUAGE, SO I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE UNDER 18. HAVE A BLAST!

Also Recommended-

My kids (9 and 11) loved this game and didn't want to play anything else until they solved the "puzzle."I appreciate having games that I don't have to worry about, and I know I can trust Adventures in Odyssey for that. There is nothing questionable - no violence, etc; instead, there are great moral lessons. There is enough action in it for the kids, and I like that they have to actually use their brains to figure it out.We liked it enough to purchase another of the Adventures in Odyssey games, Sword of the Spirit.

TomTom PDA Navigator 6 U.S./Canada Map DVD (Windows or Mac) Bluetooth GPS Receiver Review

TomTom PDA Navigator 6 U.S./Canada Map DVD Bluetooth GPS Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this for use with my trusty Treo 650 smartphone, before a plane/rental car trip. (We have been totally spoiled by the nav system in our new car, and I wanted that kind of confidence while tooling around L.A.) The Tom Tom worked great. It's easy and intuitive to use, and the maps are detailed and very legible. My only gripe is that it often seemed to take a full two minutes to link up with the satellite, and I was unsuccessful in training my spouse to wait until the little green light was blinking before setting off (and in fairness, when you're in a parking garage, you have no choice). This leads to having to choose an initial direction before the GPS knows where you are. There is no such delay in our car-based nav system, so I think this could be better.Other than that one gripe, I was very pleased with the system. It makes a great partner to the Treo--when it came time to go home, we knew we had to ship some things we had picked up along the way.I texted "ups store anaheim ca" to Google (46645), got the addresses, and plugged two of them into Navigator to see which was on our way to the airport. It guided us to the chosen location (and then on to LAX) without a hitch.I even downloaded Eddie Izzard's voice (from his own website) to liven up the audio guidance: "Thank God you're there!I can shut up now."The Tom Tom was a great addition to this trip, and I'm sure many more to come.

Graphics : Sweet. Gameplay : difficult at first, but once you understand the control scheme, you quickly get the hang of the rest. Incredible particle effects. Very well done music. Replayability : moderate to none. That's the only downside. The game has good length, and a fun idea as a plotline. But, there are not too many twists and turns plotwise, so that pulls quite a bit away from re-playability. This ran well with the minimum specs on my system :AMD XP 2800 -- 512 MG DDR RAM -- 128 MG GeFORCE 4 5600. For the sheer shooting power of the game, i would recommend it. But, don't expect extreme depth in the gameplay. Just a good bit of fun.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Review

Ghostbusters: The Video Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a long-time fan of the franchise, I was really excited for this game, especially considering that Aykroyd and Ramis wrote and starred in the game (oh, yeah, the rest of the Ghostbusters do their own voices too).

Simply put, it's fun and it's worth the money. Yes, it is inferior to the PS3 and 360 versions - no multiplayer, no achievements, plus controls designed for a console controller. On the other hand, it's half the price and the single player mode is identical.

The environments are incredibly detailed. Wandering around the firehouse in between missions, you can see the care the developers took getting the details just right. Levels are fairly well designed (though really linear), and catching ghosts is just a blast. The variants of the proton pack can be fun too, though some are kinda hokey. Most importantly, though, the story is fun and hilarious. I found myself literally chuckling or laughing at jokes from time to time (Hindenburg: The Musical? Priceless.).

There are a few issues - some repetitive gameplay at times, occasional collision issues, not a whole lot of replay value, but overall it's a solid game. Yes, the PC version has DRM - easiest way to fix that, IMO, is to buy it on Steam. Sure, Steam has DRM too, but it's not nearly as draconian as the DRM Atari, EA, and other publishers have subjected gamers to over the last couple years. Easy to manage, install, and uninstall.

If you like the franchise, buy the game. If you want to play with your friends, buy it for PS3/360.

Apple Logic Express 8 Review

Apple Logic Express 8
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here we are six months after this product was released, and there's only one review so far.I guess that's because Logic Express's big brother, Logic Studio, gets all the attention.Hey, I'd love to have Logic Studio too, especially with all those Jam Packs, as an amateur "tinkerer", I really can't justify paying five hundred bucks or so.

I decided to take the plunge on Logic Express 8 since it has much of the good stuff of Logic Studio, but it's about 300 bucks less.I'm glad I bought this. It's a lot of fun

I've had it just a couple of weeks so far, and I haven't even scratched the surface of its capabilities.Mostly I've spent my time playing with the EXS-24 sampler and the EVOC-20 vocoder.Vocoder you say?Yep.It's not even mentioned in the description above. I use a simple logitech headset mic and an M-Audio Oxygen midi controller and it works like a charm.

As to the EXS-24 sampler: a lot of people are interested in the sample library that comes with the Express version. As you are probably aware, the express version does not come with the 4 Jam Pack DVD-Roms. The library included with Express has some holes, but it is fairly easy to fill those holes with freely downloaded soundfonts from the web.

You don't get the nice box and documentation with the Express version, but the sequencer and audio recording capabilities are full-fidelity and full function.Honestly, most people are not going to miss the advanced features of Studio because there's enough to keep you busy learning for years.

The thing that made me decide to buy Logic Express 8 now rather than waiting until I had the money to buy Studio was the upgrade policy. You can upgrade to the Full Studio version for $299, which is the approximate difference in price between the packages.

UPDATE 7/2008

Now that I've been playing with Logic Express 8 for about six months, I want to add more depth to my previous comments. It still rates 5 stars for value; however I've run into areas that Apple can improve on the next refresh.

The EXS-24 sampler can lose track of samples if your library gets too large. There are work-arounds.You can split your instruments into separate Sampler Instrument folders, and you can use EXS Manager, a 3rd party software package, but it should be unnecessary.

The ES2 synthesizer sounds nice, but its user interface is obtuse, crowded and behind the times.

There is no paper manual.I'd pay an extra 20-30 bucks to get a genuine users manual with the software.

At least "right out of the box" Logic Express does not "play nice" with most midi controllers. If you want to use the buttons and sliders on your midi controller, you need to program them yourself.Personally, I haven't found the time.I can see why Apple came up with the Soundstage application that it bundles with the Studio version of Logic.Accessing your sounds across multiple built-in synths can take multiple steps in Logic Express. If you are a performing musician, you probably will eventually want Logic Studio.

Last but not least, Logic does a poor job at importing General Midi files.Basically, in this department, Logic is equal to, but no better than Garageband.Logic imports the GM file, converts it to a logic file, and assigns each track to a default instrument that often sounds nothing like the GM standard. The EXS sampler does not have a general midi soundfont.Quicktime, which comes with every mac, does have a good general midi soundfont, and you can play the Quicktime synthesizer from Logic, BUT you can't save presets, and the program does not automatically map the sounds, which makes it pretty useless.

Other than accurate General Midi importing, my wishlist would include built-in vocal-reduction (karaoke) support and pitch-to-midi input.

Via Voice 9.0 Standard Edition Review

Via Voice 9.0 Standard Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my third purchase of a ViaVoice product. The first two (Version 7, and Millenium Edition) were disappointing. I think it might have been because I didn't have a powerful enough processor with enough memory to run the application. The third try has been a charm! (I'm now running on a 500-Mhz, 256-Meg Pentium III.)
The installation was quick, easy, and straightforward. Based on other reviews (and experience with earlier releases), I expected 95-98% accuracy. My expectation was that the errors would be throughout the dictated document. To my surprise, they were localized to short phrases that were easily corrected, much easier than I found in earlier releases of the product.
I do have to be fairly consistent and clear in my speech, but I found that it adjusts to my own way of speaking quite well. What I was also surprised about was that I didn't have to speak each word with unnatural, uncomfortable distinction. I could speak as I normally do, in phrases rather than individual words. The tool does a great job of understanding what I'm trying to dictate.
My earlier experience required lots of mouse clicks after locating errors that had to be corrected. The current product can locate and correct errors through voice commands without having to touch the mouse or keyboard. I really found this to be significantly more productive than I expected.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Review

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The game follows the plot of the Lord of The Rings: Return of the King, where you can follow the plot line of Gandalf, who starts off fighting his way through Orcs to Isengard, Frodo and Sam as they escape from Osgilliath, or as Aragorn, Legolas or Gimili as they run through the Paths of the Dead.

True to the films, all the charachters fight with differnt weapons and have slightly different abilities.

The control for the game (I play without a controller on PC) was a little much for just a mouse, but after a few tries it gets pretty easy.

Moving though the game canbe a little difficult. You can only save a checkpoints, for most of the game its pretty much just a hack and slash.Albeit it was a very beautifully rendered with excellent sound and voices (done by the film actors), its still remains a pretty standard hack and slash.

I found the game a little absurdly hard. Just when you think you are done with a level, it just continues, and you kill more things that you think are possible. Also it seems that the spawn points for bad guys dont really go dry.So, for me at least, progress was kind of slow.

The only real saving grace is that included with the game, are some behind the scenes stuff, little movies etc, which are unlocked as you move higher in the tree.

Make Your Own Karaoke Vocal Remover Software Review

Make Your Own Karaoke Vocal Remover Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product borders on the fraudulent. First of all, this software is nothing more than the FREE(!) software package called "Audacity", which happens to be a great FREE software package that you can download yourself (from sites like http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). What the "nice" folks at the Karaoke software company do is simply give you instructions on how to use the FREE package called Audacity: they have you invert the tracks IN THE HOPE that it will remove the vocal. Of course, it works only rarely (actually, it didn't work for any of the music I tried). And then they have the... audacity to say "if it doesn't remove the vocal, it's not the fault of the software.... just try turning down the software...". Well I can tell you that we got a big laugh out of that - despite the fact that we had just thrown away $30. You gotta retain a sense of humor when dealing with people like this.

Start with an MP3 song you've downloaded from the Internet, music services, or music CD.2. The software will remove or reduce the vocals from the music. Using sophisticated opensource waveform sound processing software technology, centered vocals without echo will be stripped away, and centered vocals with echo or reverb will be reduced automatically. Any remaining vocals provide a pleasing backup vocal effect. Your original recording must be in stereo and vocals need to be in the center of the stereo track; vocals on the left and right sides are not removed. After reduction or elimination of the centered vocals, you can write the music back to a music CD, and use it in any karaoke machine, stereo, or portable player. 3. Now you can be the lead singer over the new backing track music, which may already have a pleasing backup vocal effect, or you can add additional backup singers. A built-in multi-track editor allows you to record voice with the music. Why waste time looking around for Karaoke CDs when you can remove vocals from any of your favorite songs? Can you imagine having all your favorite popular songs as karaoke versions? Wouldn't it be great if you were the ONLY person with certain songs that ONLY YOU could perform? Won't your kids be surprised if you present them with their favorite songs to sing with? Note: Vocals can only be removed from stereo music. Vocals are completelyremoved when there is minimal echo in the recording, otherwise greatly reduced and sound like a backup singer! Each song produces adifferent and unique effect. We're here to help you get great results.

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Review

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This installment is my new favorite in the Holmes series. It's a dark, sometimes terrifying journey into London's underbelly and the murders that plagued the area in 1888. But for a game about Jack the Ripper, it's not overtly gory and is done `tastefully.' However, the 2D renderings of some of the murder victims are still disturbing.
There are numerous puzzles, from very easy to more difficult number combination and sliding object tasks, but none are computer destroying impossible and can be figured out with a little logic. There are also many retrieve this-to make-that tasks and errands that must be done before the next sequence is revealed, but all are pertinent to the story line, are never MacGyver-level stupidity and are not boring. The ability to switch between 1st and 3rd (annoying) person is new to this game, but I mostly used first person (it makes the game more engrossing). It is a fairly long game (about 20-40 hours gameplay), but there are numerous prompts to avoid the what-do-I-do-now syndrome and the item interaction search feature cuts down on the pixel hunting that was rampant in the previous games. Slower machines may experience long loading times at some of the cut screens (due to graphics rendering) and if playing for more than 2 hours, the save feature may stop working :)

This Holmes game is the first in the series to actually let the player in on the action and deduce how Holmes actually comes up with his solutions, instead of the 15 minute closing monologue in other games where he explains the solution to poor oblivious Dr. Watson using clues that you scarcely remember picking up during the game. Gone are the annoying "answer the question, stupid Watson" sequences seen in "Awakened" and "Nemesis" that required combing through loads of barely legible papers and game crashing moments due to Frogwares inability to spell raccoon or Horatio Nelson correctly. The new `deduction' feature consists of a series of index cards that are filled out as you examine each crime scene. Then the player, using the facts, must choose the most likely scenario. Holmes and Watson even act out some of the murders to determine how the killer produced some of the wounds. The programmers of the game must also watch a lot of Mythbusters based on a rather curious and ingenious way they came up with to test knife patterns. Watson is also used more appropriately in this game, actually proving he is a doctor instead of Holmes' run to the bookshop errand boy.

Overall, I thought this was a great addition to the series and it shows that the company is listening to customer feedback. It's a definite must for lovers of the series (look for a young Barnes pre-descent into Lovecraftian madness, Holmes in a brothel, etc.) and for novice players. It's portrayal of the killings, description of the victims and the resulting ethnic paranoia is also historically accurate (all except for one mention of penicillin in 1888 for a syphilis treatment, hmmm 50 more years fellas). Some scenes show 2D gore, nothing like Awakened's 3D corpse parade, and the teen rating is more appropriate than a mature rating. The ending is plausible and is not tainted by conspiracy theory, well worth the price.

Keyboard, mouse, joystick (a version of Thrustmaster joysticks, as the game can be configured by one of the thrustmaster joystick layouts, although everything can be customized)Wings of Prey: WWII Air Combat is a combat flight simulator. With the right amount of focus placed on the actual flying of the craft to the extremely well done aerial combat. The game comes with several difficulty levels that increase the actual realism of the flying itself and the enemy's skill. There are a variety of missions, including dog fights, and bombing with a large selection of planes to keep any aviation man happy. The game can be played with keyboard and mouse, but a version of the Thrustmaster joysticks such as Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X is much better suited to play the game with.

Overall it's an excellent game that any combat flight sim junky will love.

Some off hand thoughts:
No actual taking off/ landing at base
On the harder difficulties there is limited fuel/ ammo (no way to restock) but makes it more challenging
Really good graphics & music (would recommend having above the minimum requirements to enjoy the game even more)
Multiple missions for plenty of fun offline (with good replay value)
Online capable for multiplayer missions/ combat
Roughly 45 different planes to fly
Single Missions and Campaign Mode

TASCAM GigaStudio 3.0 Ensemble ( Windows ) Review

TASCAM GigaStudio 3.0 Ensemble
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Remember the girl who broke your heart? She was SOOOO magic; Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis all in one incredible, beautiful creature. You kept trying and trying and trying.

She'd play you, too. Spend a little time with you, batting those beautiful eyelashes, brushing against you so alluringly -- then blowing you off yet again. But it was always the same story -- you'd end up alone at the end of the day with nothing to show for all your efforts but pain and frustration.

You finally wised up and blew her off once and for all -- and for three months never heard from her, until, day by day, like a nasty scrape, the pain dulled, and you would find yourself surprised that hours, even days had passed without a thought of the pain that had once dominated your entire world.

Then the phone call would come, and, with a sweet, honeyed voice, she'd work her magic on you again, and you'd think to yourself "maybe THIS time things'll be different...."

Enter TASCAM and their magic product "Gigastudio", the reputed sound sampler of the gods. GIGABYTE-sized, absolutely authentic sounds from your MIDI tracks. The ability to create aural magic for the price of a small television set.

And I bought the hype.

Not once, but twice.

Now I'm no slouch with hardware -- in addition to a one-year tech certification, I've got Microsoft MCP and COMPTIA A+ and Network+ certifications. I can build a PC from the ground up with my eyes closed and diagnose and repair virtually any problem.

I've also used a number of different audio products -- Cakewalk, Sonar, Sonic Foundry, Halion, all will generally excellent results. But EVERY incarnation of Gigastudio has only caused bluescreens or simply refused to function.

After shelling out the first 150 bucks and spending months and months of fruitless tweaking and rebuilding, you'd think I would've learned my lesson.

But no, not this hopeless romantic.

When music giant Tascam bought out Nemesys, the company responsible for the first Gigascrewedio, I thought -- like so many other hapless victims -- that THIS time things would be different.

And so I parted with another cool 250 bucks with the blind faith of the lovestruck.

Needless to say, the relationship never got past first base -- the initial installation -- and, since I waited past the warranty date, I am, once again, nicely out of luck.

So I called Tascam right before the holidays.

Getting only a recorded message, I spoke nicely, calmly, and gave detailed information about the problem, along with my contact information. I sent out a follow-up email, along the normal channels.

No answer.

I kept trying, calling long distance at different times of the day, leaving messages with tech support and the main number. E-mail after email followed.

After two weeks, my patience wore somewhat thin -- hell, even a form letter would have been appreciated as a simple gesture of courtesy.

But now, a month later, it seems I just can't get no lovin' from Tascam.

Fact is, Tascam, she just don't care.

And so, as I finally promised, I'm parting company with Gigascrewdio, never to look back. And to all of you hoping to make music with this expensively-wrapped, overly-hyped, perfumed piece of [waste] matter, expect the same. You ain't gettin' no lovin' there.

I, for one, will be looking into lemon laws to try and recoup my cash so as to spend it better elsewhere.

And so, that eternal advice still hasn't changed: dump her and look elsewhere. There are a hell of a lot better ones out there; ones who won't take all your money and leave you frustrated at the end of the day.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Review

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since this is actually a set with two games instead of just one (which is what I thought when I bought it -not that I'm complaining!) I'm going to review the games seperately. Please note that I had never even heard of either game until I picked this package up about 2 weeks ago.

The Longest Journey. (original game released in Nov 2000)

-Story 5/5
This is probably one of the best (if not THE best) storyline I've encountered. It's one of the few games where I was captivated from start to finish with no feeling of having to drag myself through boring parts just to find out what happens in the end. This game is worth playing for the story alone.

-Gamecontrol 4/5 (given for the time)
It's a 2-d setting (no camera moving) and point and click movement. Easy for even the most inexperienced gamer to grasp. While I thought this would annoy me when I first started playing (I'm used to having more control) it actually didn't.

-Gameplay 4-1/2 /5 (given for the time)
This game has the feel of a RPG, however it's not. This isn't a bad thing, but it changes the way the game is played. There is no actual fighting, it's based on "puzzles". The "puzzles" are trying to figure out what to use next to get out in a "real world" type way. It's very fun and challenging!

-Graphics N/A
Considering the game was released 7 years ago it's not fair to rate the graphics by today's standards. My ONLY complaint has to do with the 2007 GotY release, not the game itself. They should have been able to make a "windowed" mode so that we could have the option to play the game on a 800x600 window on the computer. This would allow me (and others who didn't play it when it was first released) to experience the game as it was meant to when it first came out. The images are very pixelated and it did make me miss a few smaller items because of the stretching that occurred.

-Overall 5/5
The game is almost perfect and the few things I had a problem with were not even enough to put a dent in the game. The game was (and still is) innovative and the story is king. Definately worth getting! :)

---------------------------------------------

Dreamfall (originally released 2006)

-Story 3-4/5
Overall I guess I'd have to give the storyline 3 stars, but the good parts are so great they deserve 4 stars. The story takes longer to suck you in, but once it finally does, it's great and I could just feel myself craving to finish the game. However the end botches it up. Not only with the huge cliffhanger at the end (as another reviewer pointed out) but the side plots are never cleared up either. If you actually let the end credits play through you get a little bonus clip at the end, but it doesn't do much other then indicate there might be a Longest Journey 3 coming out.

-Gamecontrol 4/5
I'm assuming the people who rated the controls as bad aren't used to the "WASD" movement that I am. I used to primarily play World of Warcraft and Guild Wars, both of which use this same movement system so it wasn't hard to adapt to it and I did not waste a lot of time bumping into the walls. However if you move straight from playing The Longest Journey to Dreamfall it does cause a bit of confusion. The only complaint I have is that they should have included a point and click option for looking at various objects, areas, and people. The other games I've played with the WASD movement include this to make it easier as opposed to tying to position your character just right so you can look at something. That was probably the most annoying aspect of the game.

-Gameplay 3 1/2 /5
Overall it's definately 3 stars. However, I give them an extra 1/2 for trying newer features that have been developed into other newer games... particularly fighting and "sneaking". Honestly... the fighting was pretty lame and except for getting the point across that you needed to figure out a different way to get out of that section, it served virtually no purpose and just was just awkward. The "sneaking"especially for this game could have been great, if it had been done right, but somehow it just wasn't. The defualt controls for it were hard (hold "ctrl" while walking) and uncomfortable. I just think there could have been a better way to "sneak". Another thing I didn't like was the character switching. I still do not understand the point of playing the Apostle. He seemed to have no purpose other then to show that the bad guys in Marcuria were not ALL bad and it wasn't very relevant to the story. Playing as April wasa bit weird. In some parts I understood it (when Zoe is trapped in the tower), but overall they should have just stuck to one character.

-Graphics 4/5
Considering the game came out about a year ago and 6 years after the original...the graphics are VASTLY better. However I've seen other games that came out earlier that have better graphics. (Sims 2 is one that comes to mind because the faces are very similar.) Some of the picking and holding up of items is awkward and looks VERY similar to the original. (Items going through the hand and floating through the air as opposed to being held. I understand this during gameplay, but during the cinematics it was annoying.) One thing I liked about Dreamfall (that actually bothered me about the first) is the costuming. In the first one April was ALWAYS wearing a midriff bearing shirt and capris even when she was given clothes in Marcuria...and NOONE else wore that. In Dreamfall Zoe is given quite a few changes of clothes and they are all relavent to the situation. (When she borrows Damien's clothes, while it clings to her, they actually made it look like a man's sweater, bc a single guy is not going to have women's clothing lying around.)

-Overall 4/5
I'm tempted to give it 3/5, but I'll be honest, I haven't played many "adventure" games and I was still engrossed in Dreamfall and finished it in three days (Technically two, but I didn't play on the day in the middle) this is rare that I want to find out what happens next that I must play (as I did with The Longest Journey) The problems don't have too much of an effect on the overall game, even if the original was far better. The only huge disappointment was the ending and all the cliffhangers.

------------------
The set overall 4/5

I definately recommend getting this set. As others stated it might be in your better interest to buy the games separately and used bc you could probaly shave $10 off the price, but I'm used to paying $30-$60 for a game (varies depending on the system) so a new game for $20 that turned out to be great was an awesome deal. It also comes with the Dreamfall soundtrack, which I haven't listened to it on it's own yet, but I did enjoy the music I heard in the game. (Both the score and the songs with singing) I did SOME research on it and it is supposed to include one song that you can't get from the free download off the site. So I suppose if you are a huge fan you might want to pick it up just for that reason alone. :)

My only complaint is that my new shrink-wrapped copy did not come with a game booklet, while it was not necessary to have one, it would have been helpful for learning certain things particularly in Dreamfall. (I was over half way through the game when I finally figured out how to check messages on my phone...and almost done when I learned they did include a "diary" of sorts as they did in the first.) The key is "M" btw and it has the diary, recent dialogue, and messages.

Also just a note on the rating...for parents (I have a 16 month old). The game is rated M and claims many things, but the main reason (I find) for the M rating is language. (They like using the "f-word" a lot.) The violence is not bad or realistic and there is no gore. I found I was able to play with my child in the room if I turned the sound down or the voices off. This goes for both games. It does have "suggestive themes", but is only voiced and not shown.
